Your Brain And You Pt. 6

Dr. Catherine Leaf: Well the healthiest and quickest way of sorting this thing out and even preventing things like Alzheimer's and all those things that you move into this rush surface society, is to start thinking. It's to slow down, sit down and whatever you listen to, for example if you're listening to us now, instead of just sort of listening, really focusing, taking out a pen and paper. There is a technique in a part of the brain called the corpus callosus, it's a part of the brain that joins the two sides of your brain.

It's the thinking part of your brain. Your whole brain thinks that that little part of your brain activates the process of thinking. Now thinking, I've spent 11 years studying it, and it's three things. Ask, answer, discuss. If you can take this away it will change your life, anyone who is listening, is that if you can ask, answer, and discuss your way through everything you see, hear and read, it will change your life.

Because you will then discipline your brain to focus to bring the two sides together to release the, all the neurological stuff will start happening correctly if you allow that part of the brain, which is called the corpus callosus, to do what it's designed to do which is ask, answer, discuss. When it functions properly the whole focus off your brain comes back in and you're going to become a deep person the way you're neurologically designed to be. You're going to go away from that surface thing.

You're not designed for this surface [inaudible]. We are able to cope with it if you're not designed to [inaudible]. And you're also not supposed to be able to do everything God gave you a gift in... You're only supposed to be working, have awareness of things, but you're supposed to work within your gifting.

Joyce Meyer: We have limits.

Dr. Catherine Leaf: We have limits. Because we're part of the puzzle, we're not all supposed to be...

Joyce Meyer: I think that's insulting in our society because they didn't think that you had limits but...

Dr. Catherine Leaf: Your own gift has no limits, but I can't do everything you can do and vice versa and that's how God designed us to be. So we should just work with him, where is the gift neurologically wired in and that's the whole concept.

Joyce Meyer: Well I do believe that focus is very important.

Dr. Catherine Leaf: Very important.

Joyce Meyer: And I think that our lack of ability to concentrate needs to be dealt with. We need to learn how to keep our mind on what we're doing and actually, I'm real big on learning how to enjoy your life and when I say that I don't mean living on vacation or just going around entertaining yourself all the time, that's not even the point of what we're trying to teach. Jesus said, I think you haven't been enjoying your life. I feel like he paid a terrific price in order for me to have a quality of life that was God's original design so I feel like I need to do my very best to try to live that life so what he went through is not wasted.

Dr. Catherine Leaf: That's right.

Joyce Meyer: And enjoying God is really a major thing for me because so many people just are afraid of God or they're vaguely aware of him. But I think we need to enjoy God and one of the things that God has really been dealing with me about, I mean on and off probably for a good solid 5 years, is to give myself to what I'm doing and thoroughly enjoy the present. That the greatest present that God gives us is the present moment that we have. But if I'm trying to live this moment and half of my brain is over here and half of it is on tomorrow...

Dr. Catherine Leaf: You can't enjoy anything.

Joyce Meyer: You totally miss, it's so amazing to me that you can sit in a movie or a meeting or a sermon or whatever and if your mind...

Dr. Catherine Leaf: Is not focused.

Joyce Meyer: Goes off somewhere else and is not focused, whatever was said during that period of time, even though you were there, you did not hear it at all.

Dr. Catherine Leaf: You've lost the opportunity to actually increase your intelligence because that's the other thing of you were saying about focusing on enjoying everyday, you don't realize that's another incredible, we'll have to have another honorary PhD because enjoying every day life, as you enjoy your life, you actually become more intelligent. They've proved it scientifically. that one of my detox steps is play and laugh a lot. And it's part of that whole process, your attitude, the state of your mind, the state of your neurological trees needs to be detoxed. You need to be in a happy, positive attitude because that causes a release of chemicals that will actually make you function in a more healthy way. So it's a very real thing.

Joyce Meyer: Amazing.

Dr. Catherine Leaf: And then your whole neurological wiring changes and your intelligence increases because intelligence has no cap. You're as intelligent as what you want to be, because you're made in God's image and he made no mistakes. So you're intelligence is he wired you for a certain gifting and then it's up to us in the stage of life to actually take that gift and develop that gift through deep thought. You can't develop a gift through this kind of lifestyle.

That's exactly what the devil would like us to do, you know that whole evil, Satan and the evil ones actually want us to do is not actually get into our gifting because the minute that you release your gifting, the minute you get into your gifting and you start releasing intelligence through applying the principals of God, through enjoying your life, through all the chemicals flow and you're going to become brilliant. If you're intelligent you can think, if you can think you'll go back to the word. You'll have more tolerance for people, people, the isms come from a lack of using your mind correctly. The minute you use your mind correctly and you think more deeply, those will go away.

Joyce Meyer: Well one thing I know for sure, Doctor, as long as you're teaching this kind of stuff, you'll never run out of work. [laughter] There's always going to be plenty of people who want to hear what you have to say if you're teaching them how they can think. Well I appreciate you being on the program with us and I'm sure that we'll have you back again sometime and I'm looking forward to getting to know you a little bit better.

Dr. Catherine Leaf: Thank you.

Joyce Meyer: Well if you stay right with us, I want to pray for you in just a moment to be able to control your thoughts so you can have the life that Jesus died for you to have. [music]

When we're here, you're here. [music] [silence]

Joyce Meyer: Well I think you've heard a lot of really good things the last couple of days about your mind and your thought life. But we know that apart from him we can do nothing, so right now I want to pray for you and I want you to agree with me that through the power of the Holy Spirit, you're going to be able to reclaim your thought life.

Father we come to you in the name of Jesus, and we thank you Lord for what we're heard yesterday and today and I pray for every person and I agree with them that they are going to have the grace to take their thoughts captive, to cast down wrong thoughts and replace those wrong thoughts with right thoughts which would be things from your word and truthful things that are going to build a great life. Thank you Lord for doing this, we trust you for it, in Jesus' name, Amen. [music]
