Logan: [silence] It's Logan. I'm hanging out outside the photography studio. I just snuck by and they've got a 50 inch plasma in there made by Samsung. Now I wanted to let you guys check it out before it's even photographed, so come on, let's go. How's it going guys? Carlos. What's up?

Carlos: Logan, what's going on man?

Logan: Listen, we're going to let these folks at home check out this Samsung really quick, you know, before it even gets finished with the photography process. Alright, this is the Samsung HPR 5072 and this is a 50 inch plasma. You know what's awesome about these 50 inch plasmas? This has a 10,000 to 1 contrast ratio. That will blow away any LCD. 10,000 to 1. The highest I've seen in LCDs is maybe 2,000... Maybe 5,000 to 1 if you want to spend a ridiculous amount of money.

Alright, you know what Samsung has done with this model? A lot of people complain about the plasmas having the burn-in, you know where you have an image that burns on the screen when you leave it on. Well this one has an auto pixel shifter and what that does is it helps eliminate the burn-ins and that's a huge bonus with plasmas.

This thing also, a lot of them also complain say "well look, LCDs last longer. They last like 50,000 hours and then plasmas only last 30,000 hours." Well, with this one, Samsung has developed some new technology. This will last 60,000 hours. So think about it. If you come home every day and you do other things for like 18 hours and you watch TV for 6 hours a day, you can keep this for 27 years. That is really, really cool.

Alright, we've seen TVs out there with 8 bit processors and we've seen them with 12 bit. This has a 13 bit processor. You know how many colors that means? That's like 540 billion different colors. I think that's more colors than are in the real world. They've put more colors than are in the real world inside this Samsung. Is that possible? I think it might be.

Let me tell you something else that's really cool. Check out, the front here. We have this nice long panel on the front. Well Samsung, they've packed 10 speakers in here to give you a very life-like sound. They've developed a speaker system that really, really sounds nice. I mean a lot of you guys are going to be hooking this into surround sound but even without the surround sound it sounds good.

Let's turn it around and look at the ports. I might be getting in trouble here pretty soon so let's hurry. Alright, you've got your 1 HDMI right here. Beneath that you've got component 1 and component 2. Right here you've got DVI audio in and there is a PC input and there is audio for your PC so you can listen to the sound. Here are your optical audio-ins. You've got the coax and opticals, you can hook it right into your surround sound system.

Moving on over, we've got two TV inputs because it does have the picture in picture capabilities with the dual tuner. And underneath that we've got a composite input, S-Video and some more audio. Actually these are audio outs right here on the front. And if you look over on the side, we've got some more ports right over here. We've got S-Video and another set of composites ride there on the side so you can plug in your camcorder and things of that nature.

Alright. Well I better go ahead and sign-off before I get into any trouble for being in here. These guys are scowling at me. It's Logan with Tiger TV. Send me some email, logan at tigerdirect dot com. Send me an idea for a review, maybe send me a video of you guys doing something stupid, maybe I'll post it. We'll see you later, I'm out of here.
