D70 trainingShow Video Details ↓ [music] …Narrator: Let's learn how to use. To begin, you must insert the battery. The Nikon D70 uses the rechargeable Nikon en-el3 battery. Before inserting the battery, ensure that the camera is off and then open up the battery compartment on the base of the camera. Slide the battery in and close the door. Next we have to attach the lens. Take protective caps off the camera and the lens and attach the lens to the camera body by lining the dots up. Finally, flash memory must be inserted into the D70. First, make sure that the camera still off and then open the small door on the back of the camera. Insert the flash memory and power on the camera. Now the card must be formatted. Go to the menu button and scroll down until you see format. Confirm the format by choosing yes and hitting enter. The camera will now format the card and display the total number of pictures that the card can store with the current settings. Before we start taking photographs, let's go over a few parts of the camera. The shutter button is located at the top right of the camera and can be pressed halfway or completely down. When pressed halfway the camera focuses on the subject. To enable the automatic focus, two switches must be set to A or AF. The two switches are located here on the body and here on the lens. The mode dial is located here. This is how you access different program settings for taking photographs. Rotate the mode dial to auto by ensuring that the auto symbol is located directly across the white marker. This setting is an automatic point and shoot setting. Nearly all the settings are controlled by the camera which makes this ideal for a first time user. Let's review a few basic photography principles before we use the D70. First, simplify your shot. Determine the subject over your shot and focus in. If there are items that will distract the viewer from the subject, re-frame the shot or find a new location to shoot from. Look at this portrait and all the clutter around the subject. The photographer should have relocated so that the subject could be seen clearly. Look at the portrait without the clutter now. The subject of the photograph is obvious and clear to the viewer. Secondly, Remember the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds divides the frame into nine even blocks created by two evenly spaced horizontal lines and two evenly space vertical lines. It is important that the subject cross two opposing lines. This creates the aesthetic of an appealing image to the eye. Remember the guidelines while you're out in the field and your photographs will come out noticeably better. One, avoid clutter. Two, remember the rule of thirds. Three, shoot from interesting angles. Get creative. To continue learning about the Nikon D70 and its many capabilities insert the second DVD titled advanced used of the Nikon D70. |
