Sajjad Karim: I stood immediately outside the main front entrance doors when we heard some gun fire from outside of the main compound of the hotel. We were then instructed to get back within the building of the lobby area in the hotel which we did. There must have been about thirty or so people within the foyer at that time.

We were then, all of a sudden, lots of people started to run towards the rear of the premises. I can only assume, I did not look to check, I can only assume it's because of the much more pronounced gun fire that was coming from the front that some of the gun men had been able to get within the hotel compound at that time. Another man just appeared, he was holding quite a large machine gun type of weapon which he just simply pointed at us and started using it.

People immediately in front of me and to the side of me, I saw start to fall and I immediately just turned and ran towards what I'd seen from the corner of my eye as a little service entrance type of corridor area. And I was just lucky enough to be able to make it into that. Nineteen, twenty maybe twenty one years old very young, and at the time that he actually started to fire his gun I saw him smile and it's just an absolutely unbelievable situation to the end.

I think I'm incredibly lucky to be alive and quite unfortunately, I did see a lot of people falling as the gunman started to fire in the lobby area. And there was a very small avenue for escape and thanks to God I was able to make it there.
