Thai Protesters Attack Police Near Airport

Sandy Cousel: Anti-government demonstrators in Thailand attacked and broke through a police port Saturday as they continue to control the main airport in Bangkok. Two signs of [inaudible] stand off for four days now and there are fears that confrontation could escalate. About 150 police officers could be seen fleeing the area as demonstrators rushed toward them. At one point, one officer could be seen carried off by the protesters. The situation has strangled the country's economy, snarled air travel around the world plus an untold number of tourists travelers in limbo there.

Roman Nesmatoley: Oh it's hell. I don't know what it is, it is really hell.

Sandy Cousel: Some of them are now flocking to military airports in the country as they try to get out.

Tony Horner: Well today we think we have a flight... They said it's confirmed. I've been in Bangkok, I was on the, virtually on the aircraft ready to go home on Tuesday night when the Thai authorities stopped us going on-board the plane.

Sandy Cousel: Police say they will soon give the demonstrators a last warning before taking action. However, those there promising not to give up until they've ousted the government. Sandy Cousel, the Associated Press.
